The Acer Swift 3 with its beautiful 14″ display and powerful AMD 5700u 7nm 8 Core / 16 thread CPU is a great choice for users who need a powerful and capable device. I thought this notebook was special because it was made with an eco-friendly box and it was really light. I was looking forward to checking out what Acer had to offer for mid-tier computing, after being impressed with their budget-friendly options.
First impressions:
I was impressed by the size and weight of the Acer Swift 3, which is much smaller and lighter than most laptops I’ve used in the past. This Acer Swift 3 has a large display and a well-spaced keyboard, making it an ideal choice for users who want a slim and stylish device. Weighing in at 2 lbs. 12.5 oz (~1.26 kg), it’s extremely light and metallic to the touch, and has a quality finish that lets you know it’s a step above budget. The 65W AC adapter isn’t as small as some other Ultrabook’s and smaller Acer Swift 3s, as this Acer Swift 3 has a full 8-core/16-thread CPU and a very bright IPS display, but it still is very compact weighing 10.5 ounces (.30kg) with power cord. The light combo weighs only 1.56kg, making it a great option for those who are looking for a minimalistic carrying option. The Acer Swift 3 features a new AMD Ryzen 5700u CPU, which makes it easy to transport and easy to use. While the 5000 series architecture is based on Zen 2 CPUs, it is still a powerful processor that is capable of handling heavy loads and single-threading tasks. Due to its 7nm design and a very good cooling system implemented by Acer, the Acer Swift 3 never throttles under load, even when running Cine bench 23, which is very stressful and challenges the CPUs in a real meaningful way. Upon first boot, you are greeted with some quick and easy setup steps, and off you go. This Acer Swift 3 comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 Home, which is ready to use. Acer strongly recommends registering during the setup phase, and it’s built into the standard Windows 10 Home setup.
You might want to run Windows Update as there are a bunch of updates waiting for my Acer Swift 3. The Acer Swift 3 ships with an older BIOS from January 2021. A BIOS update for the Acer Aspire 1.02 is available from the Acer website. It is a very easy process to run and install. As for pre-installed software, Norton Security Ultra full suite is installed with a 30-day trial. The Acer Swift 3 also includes Alexa, a custom app pre-installed on your device that integrates with Amazon. If you’re an Alexa user, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re just looking for an Acer Swift 3 that functions as a basic device without any customization or configuration, this model is perfect for you. Spending the day running it through its steps from productivity to gaming, unlike the very capable previous Acer model based on a low-core CPU, the octa-core design of this little marvel means there’s not much you can’t do with it. Handle it with relative ease. I did a few code compiles, and they were very fast. I simulated a lot of my desktop work on my 5800x laptop, and it was almost identical to what I do on my desktop computer. That was amazing, given how lightweight and portable the 5800x is.
Battery Life:
Battery life was excellent when running in balanced mode. The Acer Swift 3 has a large battery that can last a long time. Using it for a period of time (5 hours), I ended up with almost 30% of the original amount. If you adjust your settings, you will achieve different results. Expect taxing use of games or multi-threaded workloads to drain the battery quicker.
Display quality:
The 1920×1080 display on the Acer Swift 3 is really stunning – it’s the star of the show! Using a 60hz IPS AU Optronics AUO683D panel, the display can reach a very bright 300 nits and support a full 8-bit 16.7m color palette. The display has full sRGB coverage, and it’s capable of rendering colors that are bright, warm, and inviting. The icing on the cake is the 1200:1 contrast ratio and perfectly implemented antiglare. I was absolutely gob smacked with the panel quality on this Acer Swift 3 at this price. I lined up this display next to other laptops and displays of various sizes and found that it outperformed them all, but it was still able to hold its own when compared to a more expensive model.
Ports:
Unfortunately, with such a small size comes tradeoffs, one of which is port selection. The Acer Swift 3 has one USB type A port, a USB type C port, and an HDMI port on the left side, and a USB type A port, headphone jack, and a security lock port on the right. This Acer Swift 3 doesn’t have an Ethernet port. Using on the go might not be a problem, but if this is also going to work as a desktop replacement, you’ll want to invest in a multi-purpose hub that’s not only for expansion ports, but also easy to use to quickly connect and disconnect, taking the Acer Swift 3 with you wherever you go.
Wi-Fi:
The Acer Swift 3 comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can connect right away to any available networks. The Acer Swift 3 will come with either a MediaTek or Intel Wi-Fi card. Depending on which card is chosen, it may offer better performance or compatibility. My device came with a MediaTek processor, and it works as expected. The wireless card can be switched to another model at your discretion.

Once you remove the back cover (which is easily removed after removing a series of clearly visible screws and using your fingernail or a plastic vaporizer along the front), little is done in terms of expansion capacity. The memory is soldered onto the motherboard, so it can only be installed in one M.2 bay. Fortunately, the Acer Swift 3 makes it easy to swap out the memory if you want. You can also choose to replace the Wi-Fi card with another model if you wish.

The Acer Swift 3 comes with a keyboard that is well-lit. The Acer Swift 3 doesn’t have a numeric keypad, but the placement of the keys is spaced well and it’s easy to adjust to and use. I appreciate the responsiveness of the trackpad and the build quality of the Acer Swift 3, but I prefer trackpads with separate left and right buttons. My computer came with a Synaptics touchpad. This model comes with a fingerprint reader that integrates with Windows for quick logins to Windows 10. Windows 10 works well and there was little delay in displaying my desktop when I placed my finger on the screen. Windows login can be a bit slower when you first start up your computer, but the new Windows 10 update makes it much faster.
Webcam:
I’ve tested the webcam and found that it handles itself well in recording sessions. For basic use, the webcam on this Acer laptop is adequate.
Fan Noise:
The fan on the CPU cooling system can sometimes spin up when it’s in use. This noise is usually harmless, but it can be annoying if you’re trying to concentrate on work. The Acer Swift 3 comes with a larger, better-quality fan and a top-notch heatsink exhaust system. This laptop provides excellent cooling performance and does not throttle under heavy loads, making it a great choice for users who need a powerful notebook that is still quiet. When taxed the fans will take it to the next level but due to super cooling, they never reach the max, obviously audible but an acceptable decibel range.

I found myself marveling at its quality in this price range. The AMD Ryzen 7 3700U is a powerful processor that is backed by a great cooling system. This makes it immune to thermal throttling, which is always a worry with powerful processors. The 512GB SSD gives you plenty of storage space, and 8GB of memory is more than enough for most purposes. Dual-booting Windows 10 and your favorite applications is easy with the 8GB memory. The backlit keyboard is a big plus. The integrated graphics of Vega 8 is deceptively able to match the performance of desktop Nvidia GT 1030 and works for light modern gaming at 1080p and even some graphics work.
If you need more than 8GB of system memory, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Although the CPU is very powerful, you may need something more powerful (and heavier and more expensive) depending on the nature of the work. 1080p for many modern games. Even if you’re using an external display, you’ll have to make compromises in frame rate and detail level expectations. The limited port selection may leave you feeling cramped, as you may not be able to use the ports that you need.

Great Mid-High End Portable Laptop for Software Development and Light-Midweight Gaming
This powerful laptop is immune to many of the shortcomings common to gaming laptops. The laptop has a good display and build quality, as well as great performance for its size. The small size of this device makes it easy to carry around, and its thermals are decent. However, the fan can get very loud when it’s under heavy loads. Port selection includes 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB C, 1 HDMI, and Kensington Lock. It’s a little annoying because there is no Ethernet or SD card reader; However, I got a to-link ethernet + USB hub for about $30 and it’s very easy to carry around. The speakers are located on the bottom of the device, and they don’t produce the best sound. I am impressed by the battery life on this powerful and small laptop. If you’re playing games that require a lot of graphics or CPU processing, you may experience less performance than if you play less-intensive games. Fans can become noisy when they’re stressed, but on average they’re quite quiet. The performance is very good. The Ryzen 7 5800u is a powerful CPU that is perfect for use in ultra-portable devices, especially for video and photo editing. The 3050ti allows most modern games to play at decent frame rates. Keep in mind that any game over 60 is overkill unless you’re using an external monitor, so this should be fine for all non-AAA games and even some high framerate AAA games on a high-powered setting. However, because the laptop is so large, you only get about 60-70% of the performance you would get in a gaming laptop. Finally, there is a second M.2 SSD slot inside for future upgrades, and the first is also accessible by the user. If you want to open the object, be sure to have the right tools. Overall, this car gets 4.5/5 from me (rounded up to 5). For people who are interested in performance or DIY, the Wi-Fi card is MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 6 2×2. I’ve been eyeing upgrading my wife’s older Samsung Ultrabook for a while now. She wanted to get into gaming, but her Samsung only had integrated graphics. She was also looking for a laptop that wouldn’t scream “gaming laptop” because she occasionally visits the office. I have not been able to find anything within the price range of $1400 for the past nine months. The only laptops that came close to being as sleek looking like the creator model was those from Razer or MSI or Asus, but they cost much more. Acer released the Swift X with a 3050ti, and I immediately purchased it. It has all the features I need and more, and I can’t find a good reason to spend more money on other laptops. The only thing I can say for certain is that the brands mentioned do have tighter tolerances, build materials, and higher refresh rate screens. That being said, Acer made this a sleek looking and well-built product, so you are splitting hairs to spend more for those other options. What are the specific details of how it performs? The camera and microphones are an improvement over my HP omen and her Samsung Ultrabook, which was surprising because those both cost more at the time. The keyboard is smaller than most, but it’s still comfortable to use. She mostly uses it on a stand, but the built-in keyboard and mouse are both good and reliable. The trackpad has nice key travel and a smooth control. She hasn’t used the device on battery for long so I can’t comment on that, but it seems well above average from other reviewers on YouTube. My second Swift 3 and I love them!
Bought an Acer Swift 3 couple years back and have absolutely loved using it. Needed a computer for my brewing building so I thought I would buy another Swift 3 for my daily use and take my old one for my brewing purposes. The new one has some improvements over the older one but the new one has a couple of things I wish Acer wouldn’t have changed. New keypad is white figures on silver keys, (old keypad much easier to see in ALL lighting conditions), but I was aware of the change before I purchased. New unit had gone from 4 total USB ports and 1 SD slot to 3 total USB ports and NO SD port. SD port wouldn’t bother me at all if it had 1 more USB port. Anyway, I knew of all of the changes before I purchased and I am totally happy so far, (3 days old) I can highly recommend this ACER unit.

Powerful Gaming Laptop
The 3050ti in this device is amazing. This is coming from somebody who has a high-end computing device, such as a 3070. This laptop has been able to play most media content with good performance. I’ve been able to get consistent frame rates of around 40-60 in Cyberpunk using DLSS. Mount and Blade: Banner lord runs like a dream with DLSS enabled. The only game I’ve had issues with is Ark: Survival Evolved, but I also have issues with Ark on my main desktop with a more powerful hardware configuration. Make sure your laptop is plugged in to the power source before activating the 3050ti. This option can be changed in the BIOS, but I usually play games while stationary, so I don’t need to change it.I would rather conserve battery life if I were using it on the go for YouTube and other activities. One big issue! The Bluetooth transmitter built into this system can sometimes produce poorer quality sound. This can happen randomly and go back to normal depending on the situation. That would be annoying enough, but when that happens the volume will oscillate from extremely low to EXTREMELY LOUD (which has prompted me to rip out my Bluetooth earbuds more than once (the driver) and reinstalling seems to fix the problem. Hopefully this is a permanent solution, but only time will tell.
